Vinum Nostrum. Art, science and myth of wine in the civilizations of the old Mediterranean
Museo degli Argenti, Palazzo Pitti, Florence 20th July 2010 - 30th April 2011
Roberto Cantini

The exhibition that has just been started at the Museo degli Argenti of Palazzo Pitti is of great interest and fascination. We can realize the history of wine throughout the centuries just beyond 2000 years: the cultural and religious stages, the geographic spreading of the cultivation, the agricultural features of grapes, the production and the transport and the consumption of wine in the old world.

Most of objects in the exhibition have been properly selected so that we can understand the origin and the consumption of wine in Asia and in Egypt, with its relevant religious and cultural meanings in the Hellenic world, and then the successful spreading of wine by Romans. A section of the exhibition concerns the extraordinary contribution that Phoenicians and Etruscans played in the spreading of the cultivation of wine in the Mediterranean.

Starting from the next month of September in the Boboli Garden some events will take place in order to celebrate wine and its links with the history of civilization. It is a good opportunity to visit also the Museo degli Argenti and the magnificent Pitti Palace.
