The purpose of the event, organized by the Wooltexpro Association in collaboration with TDF Milano, is to create and to strengthen ties between the two countries, India and Italy. The main objective of the Indian producers of wool factories is collaboration with Italy, to set forth or even start the production phase.
Some trade facts between India & Italy:
  • India is Italy's fifth largest trading partner in the EU.
  • The export of woollen textile items including carpets from India to Italy during 2009-10 was Euros 430 Million and during April to September, 2010 was Euro 185 Million
  • The volume of bilateral trade during 2009 has reached Euro 5,657.1 million. The exports from India reached Euro 2,906.9 million, a decrease of 15.23% in comparison to 2008
  • The thrust areas of India's exports to Italy are textiles, including cotton and synthetic yarns and fabrics, readymade garments, motor vehicles, footwear, iron and steel, leather and leather goods, gems and jewellery, marine products, agricultural and related products, auto components, chemical products.
  • Future Prospects for investment and trade are encouraging, as India is increasingly being seen as an emerging economic power in the world and an important economic partner in Asia, both in terms of trade and investment, and as an alternative to their original interest in Eastern Europe.
PAt the first edition (last June), Mrs. Mukta Nichi Samnotra, representative of the Minister of the Indian Textile Industry, in the press conference presented the following initiative: «In these three days in Milan, we are testing the interest of Italian clients, distributors and retailers to make deals and partnerships with our producers. This is a preparatory stage, that will repeat in September. Then, starting in 2012, targeted programs will follow, also because Italy is a special market, of niches, extremely aware of material and of quality».

In fact, as part of the «preparatory stage», mentioned by Mrs. Samnotra, a second mission of Indian producers is scheduled for September, from 14 to 16: Made in India Expo will be held in the context of the larger Intertex Milano / Ready to show, the only exhibition for sourcing in Italy at its 21st edition.

Among the exhibitors of the June edition, a wide range of companies participated, both high end manufacturers and artisans, from Reed & Taylor to Savita Export, from Exotic Concept to Divyant Impex.

Among the Italian visitors at the first edition there were weavers of garments or accessory specialists, clients searching for production partners, and so on. A wide spectrum of visitors of first order from Gucci group to Bennet (hypermarket chain), from children's wear to high end men's wear designers, from haberdashery to the biggest names in Como!

A big success, particularly for fashion accessories, scarves, stoles, shawls, from pure «Himalayan» styles for men, to such colors and fine embroidery for feminine fashion.
