Fashion Events at the Bardini Museum in Florence.
Proposal by the Member of Cultural Department of the city Council of Florence
Francesco Scianni

The chance to meet the Councillor of the Cultural Department of the city Council of Florence, Eugenio Giani, allows us to get some answers, but also some proposals, in a very intense moment of the cultural life of Florence.

Florence and fashion, Councillor Giani, in an uneasy economic international panorama, which role could have this city with its tradition, in the fashion sector, that represents an important contribute for the national economy?
Florence can exercises an important function on the cultural level, awaking the attention on its monumental spaces, ambients and museums, with initiatives that could focus on these places. These initiatives should have a strong cultural characteristic: modern expositions in existing spaces, books' presentation, poetry and musical evenings, and in this case also events connected with the fashion.

Private entrepreneurship of the fashion division and civile service. For your experience as administrator, in the reality of Florence and of Tuscany, do you believe we have lost some chances to collaborate? In your opinion, which initiatives could be undertaken?
The fashion world is volcanic. In the publishing industry, for example, it has produced often initiatives where the civile service could have given more support. But they are initiatives that have straggled in less time. It is true that this is linked to the fashion world; an effervescent reality that, for its nature, lives and increases if the initiative finds place in a market that produces resources.
The initiatives of the fashion sector could end, or last not much time, but often from them born and spring other ideas and projects in continuous renovation.
The civile service has got an important role, in my opinion, with the creation of the Centre for the Italian Fashion, that arised different operative societies, in particularly in the expo-area. An integrated system where the "public service" has favorite the development of the private initiatives.
I would also like to use this occasion in order to make a proposal that could create a further union between culture and fashion. In Florence exists a place where this relation could be tested, I mean the Bardini Museum that will open next 4th April.
It is a unique reality; the show-room of one of the biggest antique dealer of the twentieth-century. It can be the original set where can be hosted fashion shows, I think this will be possible starting from next Pitti that will take place in January 2010 in Florence.
I would like to advise the fashion operators to consider the use of the space of this Museum for their events. A museum that is born thanks to the good taste of an antique dealer, in a path where can be lived the sensibility and refinement with which an objects should present to people.
In my opinion the Bardini Museum could represent a synergy between fashion and culture in Florence.
