Florence, Palazzo Pitti, Andito degli Angiolini – Galleria del Costume, 3 july – 8 december 2012
Roberto Cantini

For the first time we can admire in the wonderful frame of Palazzo Pitti in Florence a very refined and unique exhibition concerning the history and the culture of the Natives from America that is the «Red Skins». This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the close co-operation with the Gilcrease Museum of Tulsa in Oklahoma, which is one of the most important museums for the history of north America and the largest in the world for the collections of art and handicraft concerning the history of the American West that it is possible to see there.

Therefore we can say that the Gilcrease Museum is a basic point of reference for those that study the history of the natives from America, and by the way one of the aims of the museum is to spread worldwide their history and culture.

During the visit of this fascinating exhibition visitors can see a set of paintings of important portraits of chiefs of the Indians that are famous all over the world, they belong to different Indian Nations, at the same time the exhibition gives the possibility to see also some beautiful objects used in their daily life as weapons, jewels, marvellous male and female clothing, vases and so on.

Finally this exhibition allows the public to fully understand and appreciate the witnesses of this civilization of high level represented by the Natives from America.

So, a good opportunity for the Florentine and for visitors having the chance to be in Florence in this time to glance at it. The exhibition has been organized by the Polo Museale Fiorentino with the co-operation of the Gilcrease Museum thanks to the strong will and enthusiasm of Mr. Osvaldo Giovannelli.
